Sam Weinberg is a Brooklyn-based saxophonist, composer and improviser. Weinberg has developed a language for the saxophone which aims to push the instrument beyond usually assumed limitations, capacities, and functions. His music is inspired in equal measure by free improvisation, free jazz, noise and various movements in visual art. His currently active projects include W-2 (with Chris Welcome), Bloor (with Andrew Smiley and Jason Nazary), Maestro Day (with Henry Fraser and Joe Moffett), and solo saxophone sets.
Other collaborations and projects are many and varied and include the likes of Ben Bennett, Jaimie Branch, Weasel Walter and Jon Lipscomb. He is a member of Henry Fraser’s harmolodic pop band The Full Salon. Weinberg founded Renfusa Records in the summer of 2016 which puts out limited-run cassette and CD-R releases of his music and that of his friends.
